Sometimes you hear a words that’s supposed to describe someone and you really wonder what the heck that’s supposed to mean. Like gangly or elfin. Then you see someone and you go “ooooh, so that’s what that means!” I had that exact same experience when I saw these pictures and I finally realized what “Pixieish” means. Here’s the definition:

–noun
1. a fairy or sprite, esp. a mischievous one.
2. a small, pert, or mischievous person.
–adjective
3. Also, pix⋅ie⋅ish, pix⋅y⋅ish. playfully impish or mischievous; prankish: pixie mood; a pixie sense of humor.

Am I wrong here? Does she not look playful and mischievous? She’s like an adorable little sprite all in pink!

  • Abercrombie Dress: $45.
  • Target Shoes: $20.

Am I the only one who thinks this outfit would look even better with little fairy wings? Mmm… maybe it’s the lack of sleep…

Is it just me or do these cute little dresses make everyone who wears them look 16 years old? Well, maybe it’s just me, but you have to admit this look does make people look really young, which is not necessarily a bad thing, I’m just saying! On the other hand, she does accessorize nicely with those pearls. Bonus points for that. *sigh* There’s the strappy sandals again…

  • Urban Outfitters Dress: $100.
  • And I’m not telling you where the sandals came from because I’m tired of strappy sandals!

On the plus side, this outfit does look really comfortable considering this was taken in Dallas in the middle of summer with the temperature hovering somewhere over 1,000,000 degrees.

I have a confession to make. I have a weakness for slowing skirts and dresses. I don’t know why, they just seem really feminine and pretty to me. They have a way of making anyone seem good, especially if they’re done well, and this new look from Dallas does them well.

I think part of why I like this look is because she just seems so happy but mostly it’s the color. In addition to flowing lines, I also like bold colors and this purple paisley number is very pretty. Add in some strappy sandals with a bit of flair and you have a great look that’s perfect for summer. (Although I stand by my comment from yesterday and really hope that strappy sandal season will end soon. Can we go back to boot season?)

  • “30 Ways to Wear” Dress (single piece of malleable and arrangeable fabric with instructional DVD): Kenyan Boutique Garment: $100. Well now that’s interesting. I thought this was a standard dress until I saw the source. I like the idea and can see how it would be really flexible.
  • Anna Trenzki: Handmade Kenyan Shoe: $100

A little more expensive than our standard looks but it does provide a lot of flexibility.

You know the first thing that went through my head when I saw this? Well, actually, the second thing, because the first thing was “How old is this girl?” but trust me, she’s over 18. Look A Day makes sure of that because we’re not THAT kind of site.

Ok, so the second thing that went through my head was “How the heck does she manage to look conservative and cute all at the same time?” Look at her, she’s absolutely adorable and yet she’s actually dressed pretty conservatively. Sure it’s a miniskirt but it’s not that short. Sure they’re heels but they’re actually very sensible. Sure it’s a pretty blouse but it’s not tight fitting or anything. Somehow, she’s managed to pull together a simple skirt, a shirt and sensible shoes into a look that works really well. Also, she gets bonus points from me for coordinating her hair with her shoes. Seriously, that just shows style!

  • It’s a Madewell shirt which cost $5.99. It’s a low price because it was on sale for 40% off.
  • The skirt is J. Crew and cost $16. Again, on sale for 20% off
  • The belt is also from J. Crew Belt for $6 at that same 20% off sale
  • Shoes are from Anthropologie and cost $40.

So umm… yah, this whole outfit cost $78 dollars and most of that was the shoes. I’m going to forgive the shoes just because they work so well with her hair. As for the rest, I’m telling you, sensible can look great and she’s the perfect example of that.

Shorts are usually considered the opposite of fashionable. They’re supposed to be something casual that you throw on for when you need to take the dog to the park or the kids to school. And yet, shorts can actually look quite good. Take our this look from Dallas. It’s very simple, very appropriate for the heat in Texas and yet very stylish. It works especially well because her tank top is a bit more than just a simple tank and her sandals are a bit more than just simple flip flops. In other words, she’s wearing a casual shorts and tank top outfit, but she went just a little bit further and that makes the difference.

  • Shirt is from Anthropologie and cost $30. Love it by the way, great piece, very flexible with how you can wear it. I can see this working really well on something a bit less casual.
  • Shorts are from Madewell and cost $12. Great price.
  • Shoes are from Nordstroms and cost $30. To be honest, I’m really starting to hope strappy sandal season is behind us, but that’s just me!

Just more proof that style doesn’t have to be uncomfortable and that comfortable summer outfits don’t have to lack style.
