Oh So HOT! (New York – October 13th, 2009)
Ahh, I love the “thrown together” look. Can’t you just imagine her jumping out of bed on a sunny New York morning? She just happened to throw on some tights, her boyfriend’s shirt, some boots and a jacket and now she’s off to get a bit of breakfast. It’s almost believable and really, does it matter if it’s true or if it took her an hour to put this together? She looks amazing!

- Shirt by Phillip Lim
- Shoes by Ann Demarchelier
- Jacket: vintage
- Leggings from American Apparel
- Boots by Rick Owens
By the way, here’s a little fact for all you women out there from us men. We absolutely love it when you wear our shirts. We may complain at times but the truth is that it’s totally adorable. Keep doing it!

Italian Fashion, I think! (Milan – October 12th, 2009)
This is our fourth day in Milan, checking out the kind of things that people wear when they’re going out and here’s our second Italian man. I’m not really sure what to say here. The Italian women looked so well put together, even when they were casual, but Italian men are confusing me. This certainly isn’t a bad outfit. He’s not wearing ill fitting jeans, a dirty t shirt and sneakers. On the other hand, is this really the height of Italian male fashion? Sure, he looks good but really? I don’t know, I just expected something more sophisticated I guess. Then again, the whole point of Look A Day was to show that you don’t have to spend a fortune to look good, so maybe this is the exact kind of look I should be encouraging. Grr! I just don’t know.
Ladies, please sound off. What do you think about this look?
This look comes to us from Milan courtesy of Defree Design.
- Jeans– Levi’s : 65.00 euro (interesting, Levi’s seem to a be a lot more popular in Europe than they are here in the US)
- Shirt – Levi’s : 34.00 euro
- Shoes – All Star: 64.00 euro
- Bag – Diesel: 30.00 euro
Best part about the outfit? “All accessories are in harmony with the “key piece” of my outfit, the shirt, and black and white is always in fashion.” Ok, I give up. He clearly has fashion sense. Maybe I just need to be an Italian woman to appreciate it.

Hot Pink Men’s Style! (Milan – October 7th, 2009)
This is our third day in Milan, checking out the kind of things that people wear when they’re going out. Today, we have our first Italian man. I’m conflicted here. On the one hand, he just doesn’t look as sophisticated as I had imagined European men. On the other hand, HOT PINK! No American man would be caught dead in this shirt, which is part of the reason I like it so much. For me, part of looking good is about confidence and this guy has plenty of that. He wants the attention that comes with that shirt. He’s not shy. He’s totally confident and that looks good. Take note men, pink can look manly when you wear it like a man. (And the beret? BONUS!!!)
This look comes to us from Milan courtesy of Defree Design.
- Jeans – Levi’s: 45.00 euro
- Shirt: 12,00 euro
- Beret – zara: 15.00 euro
Best part of the outfit? “Is a casual look, good for all times. And the beret is my new personal characteristic.” Hey, got to some personal style.

Hot Purple Bag! (Milan – October 6th, 2009)
This is our second day in Milan, checking out the kind of things that people wear when they’re going out. Today, we have this lovely black dress. On its own, I think it might have been too dark and it’s just not skimpy enough to qualify as a “little black dress”. Toss in a black scarf and it becomes really too dark. No worries, add in a hot purple bag and the outfit totally pops. Great example of a loud bag which actually adds to the outfit instead of detracting from it. As for the ear phones, I could do without but I suppose that’s a modern accessory we’re all guilty of overdoing.
This look comes to us from Milan courtesy of Defree Design.
- Dress – Stefanel: 52.00 euro
- Scarf – Zara: 29.00 euro
- Bag: 75.00 euro
- Shoes – Zara: 65.00 euro
Best part about the outfit? ” The black draws more attention and contrasts with the color of my bag, which is part of the look. It all combines to draw even more attention”. I’m telling you, I should move to Italy, we think alike!

Elegant Simplicity (Milan – October 5th, 2009)
We’re back to Milan this week to see some Italian style and we asked our photographers to find people who are going out for a night on the town. In other words, something a bit more than just casual but a bit less than totally formal. Today’s look is the first of what we got.
It’s a simple enough dress, with nice clean lines. Great matching color on the purse and the shoes, with a little bit of silver, pop out but in a very subtle way. Nothing too mind blowing, just simple elegance that’s more than enough. Looks like a great outfit to go out in, especially in the Italian heat and humidity.
This look comes to us from Milan courtesy of Defree Design.
- Dress – Mango: 57.00 euro
- Bag – Accessorize: 32.00 euro
- Shoes – Unknown: 49.00 euro
I loved her quote about why she likes the outfit; “All the clothes are in the same color scheme, so the attention is all on my dress.” The girl knows her fashion, and she’s absolutely right. Too many nice outfits are ruined by accessories that detract from the whole. Glad to see this one wasn’t.

Cutest Outfit EVER! (New York – October 3rd, 2009)
Today’s delayed post is coming to you courtesy of the movie Zombie Land. No, Look A Day did not get a corporate sponsor. I’m just saying that the post is delayed because I went out last night to watch a movie. Two things. First, movie is two hours of epic win with little bits of awesome sprinkled on top. Go see it! Second, five dollars for a small coke?!?!?! Alright, and now, on with the fashion!
Some looks are sexy, some are stylish and some are just plain gorgeous. This one? This one is CUTE!!!! It’s adorable. It’s like kittens and puppies playing together with a small baby and they’re all making that cute face that they make when they did something bad but they want you to love them anyway. Look at her. I want to hug her and kiss her and call her George. (Did you all get that Bugs Bunny reference or am I really old?) Sure, the adorable smile lit up my day like a bright warm sun shining through the clouds on a winter day, but it’s the outfit that does it. The sweat shirt, the long skirt, the shoes and the hat. Especially the hat. I can’t decide if she’s the good fairy of Halloween or the female equivalent of cupid come to spread good cheer among mankind. Either way, I’m in love. This is a perfect example of how a little personal style and a lot of self confidence can make you look better than any runway model ever created in Vogue’s labs.
This look comes to us from Broome St @ West Broadway courtesy of Lee Satkowski Photography.
- Shirt came from Kids Gap
- Everything else came from a vintage store
My day has gotten better just typing this. Thank you New York for delivering this picture to me and thank you whoever you are for being you. Don’t ever change!

Tights In New York, Seriously? (New York – October 1st, 2009)
Is this stylish? It certainly looks good, but is it stylish? What is style anyway? Is it taking the time to make sure you look good when you wear tights? There’s a part of me that wanted to not post this because it looks thrown together at the last moment. Then again, if it was thrown together, who ever did it was good. This looks great. It manages to look casual and yet neat all at the same time. You know what? Screw it. This site is all about not giving in to some magazine’s stupid fashion sense and instead showing you all how great ordinary people can look. This woman looks beautiful and I’m going to tell the whole world about her.
This look comes to us courtesy of Lee Satkowski Photography.

- Leggings: “American Apparel”

Skinny Jeans On A Guy, Yes Or No? (New York – September 30th, 2009)
Once again I am conflicted. I’m trying to figure out which season of Buffy had the best villain. I mean, Glory was great but the mayor was… er… wait, that’s the wrong conflict to discuss here. What was I saying? Ahh yes, I’m conflicted! Specifically I am conflicted about whether or not guys can pull this this look. Clearly this guy is doing it and he’s doing it well, but can all guys pull off this look? The skinny jeans are risky enough, but when you add the hat and the shoes you really have to be bold. Oh well, go big or go home! You got to risk it to get the biscuit!
This look comes to us from 2nd ave & 5th st courtesy of Lee Satkowski Photography. (NYU student?)
- Coat: “Zara”, 100EU
- Shoes: vintage
- T shirt: generic
- Hat: “Zara”, 30EU
- Jeans: “Antique Denim”, 200USD
- Bag: “J Peterman”, 300USD (look at that, it’s not just women who pay a lot for bags!)
There has to be an artist joke here somewhere. I can almost feel it but it’s not quite coming to me…

Tube Top Madness! (New York – September 29th, 2009)
Ahh, the tube top. Unlike the sundress, the tube top can and does go out of style sometimes. At other times though, it makes a comeback so great that it positively blows me away. This is one of those times. Now I will say that the tube top is not a garment made for everyone, unlike the sundress. A bit top heavy and you look like you’re about to pop out. A bit too skinny and you look like a 12 year old boy. Got to have the right body style and the right outfit for a good tube top which is what today’s look has.
I especially like the super tight jeans with the top. It flows perfectly from top to bottom and right into those boots. I don’t think this look would look as good without something as form fitting. I could do without the big purse but hey, no one’s perfect, especially not me. Remind me to tell you all one day about why I can never eat potato salad again!
This look comes to us from Cooper Square, Astor Place courtesy of Lee Satkowski Photography.
- Head to toe – Forever 21
- Purse: Canal Street
- Boots: vintage
I’m still waiting for big hair to make a come back!

Fashion Has Layers (New York – September 28th, 2009)
So, what do you think? Too many layers here or just right? My first thought was too many but then I took a closer look and things are really working here. It seems sort of disconnected at first and yet it really grows on you. I love the boots, skirt and shirt with their casual look and soft colors and then that shawl just brings it all out perfectly. I never would have thought that those colors go together but somehow they really do. Well, just goes to show what I know. Either way, great look here. Way to define your own style without following the crowd!
This look comes to us from Union Square courtesy of Lee Satkowski Photography.
- Scarf by Ecco; $70
- Vest: vintage
- Shirt by
Ragged BoneRag and Bone; ~$100 - Bag bought on the beach in Costa Rica; ~$5

What do we want to call this? Casual? Hippie? Casual 60’s? Formal 80’s? All New York?!?!
